The Landing Ministry

The LandingThe Landing is an apartment complex located at 11th and Mingo. The Holiday apartments are located east of The Landing apts, facing 101st E Avenue. Our friendships at The Landing and Holiday apartments began to be built in September of 2002 when Jill Belanger and Rachel Turner began helping children with their schoolwork on Thursday afternoon. As time went on, other opportunities presented themselves and the Lord enabled us to walk in them. Christ Presbyterian Church currently leases an apartment which serves as the meeting place for Sunday Night Bible Clubs, Tutoring, Teen Club.

Sunday Nights

The LandingSunday nights at The Landing are filled with spiritually uplifting, worship, youth activities, and Bible teaching. We begin each Sunday evening at 4:00 pm with children's songs, led by David Belanger. After the sing-a-long, there are bible lessons for children. We seek to teach creatively through games, stories and crafts to each group. At the end of each evening, the children are treated to snacks and drinks. Summer activities include games like soccer, kick ball, flag football, and frisbee toss, in place of the sing-a-long, in the park to the west of the apartment complex. The Keilbarth family, two Belanger families, and Victor Arteaga minister to the children of The Landing through this venue. Sunday Nights at Wilma's House In the spring of 2007, The Landing apartment complex was in a state of transition and very families with children remained at the complex. As a result we began to hold the Bible Club meetings at Wilma Thompson's house to minister to children in her neighborhood. In time the children returned to The Landing apartments and the ministry team split so that we now have Sunday Night Bible Clubs at both locations. Wilma Thompson, the Lee family, and the Parker family now minister at Wilma's house on a weekly basis.

Tutoring

The LandingOn several afternoons each week, adults from CPC meet with teens from The Landing to assist them with math, reading, and schoolwork. The tutoring takes place in a one-on-one format which strengthens relationships with the teens. Teen Group Stuart and Debbie Spencer meet with the teens every Thursday night for Bible study and pizza. Once or twice a month, on weekends, they have an outing of some sort such as swimming, a movie, or even canoeing or rock climbing. The movies selected are new video releases of recent theatrical films that can be discussed in groups afterwards for guidance and interpretation. The movies chosen are always films that have a moral ethic, so one can discover new ideas and concepts relating to living as Christians. The Spencers are assisted by Victor Arteaga, Katie Belanger, and Dave McMillan.

The LandingAs we develop friendships at The Landing opportunities arise to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Our reconciliation to God in Christ is the foundation to reconciliation between spouses, parents and children, and neighbors. As we recognize and accept our brokenness God sanctifies us and molds us into the image of Christ thus enabling us to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. If you would like to be a part of CPC's ministry at The Landing, please contact any of the members of CPC who are currently involved.
